HOW DOES THE GUITAR COME TO THE WHISKEY BASE ... AND WHY?

The Story ...:

Anyone, who has anything to do with creativity in their lives will know this moment. Without being able to call a special trigger here, an idea flashes through your head, which seems ludicrous at first glance, while on the other hand it seems quite exciting.

In my case, that same flash of inspiration hit me on a Saturday night, while I pondered the sound properties of wood in a glass of Aureum Grave Digger whiskey, which are commonly used in guitar making. The combination of the whiskey glass in my hand with the resonance properties of the woods in my head led me to wonder if the sound behavior of a wood would change, if you put it in whiskey. Although some physical wood experiments have already been done in the past, such as settling in by means of loudspeakers or the freezing of wood, the extent to which an extensive whiskey bath has an effect on the sound of an instrument, has never been investigated. The challenge was born.

The first task was to find suitable partners for the campaign. With the distillery Ziegler, the fluid part of the experiment was found very quickly, as I could already look back on a very successful cooperation through the two Aureum whiskeys "Grave Digger Edition" and "The Bruce". In the field of wood selection, I managed to win over Europe's largest manufacturer of bass and guitar, the company Framus / Warwick, which provided a rich selection of woods such as mahogany, olive, swamp ash or even ebony.

Through small samples, which were already inserted in whiskey, a preselection was made, which seemed most promising wood, then to sink in the final execution ever an untreated guitar neck and a guitar body in a total of three different barrels, which specifically with stainless steel brackets for the woods and plexiglass lids were provided for visual inspection. That almost as a "by-product" of the venture three unique whiskeys should find their way into the bottle, I initially had not on the screen, yes, until the first samples were taken from the barrel.

The first impressions were already breathtaking. Completely new, previously unknown flavors penetrated the throat, nose and throat and enthused all those present from the spot. The outstanding result is reflected in the three creations "The Guitarist" (SOLD OUT), "The Bassplayer" and my personal "Ironfinger" edition. With the Aureum 1865 - Ironfinger, we launch the second of a total of three strictly limited special editions on the market. The Ironfinger was finished with the wood swamp ash & chestnut and has 47% vol drinking strength; non-chill filtered.

The guitar blanks have now been dried and are currently being further built into finished electric guitars, which I will check out after completion of a comprehensive test regarding the sound differences to conventional sound woods.

This trio of Aureum 1865 special editions is certainly UNIQUE in the world.

The knowledge of the outstanding craftsmanship of all the companies involved and the unique history of the production of whiskey makes me very proud indeed. Who is allowed to call a personalized whiskey of this quality? :-)
